Pathology Subspecialty

Gastrointestinal & Liver

The gastrointestinal (GI) subspecialty division of Hospital Pathology Associates works with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, liver and biliary system. Our team’s primary focus is to translate existing and evolving knowledge about gastrointestinal (GI) diseases into state-of-the-art care of patients. In addition, we work closely with the internists, gastroenterologists, surgeons and oncologists in daily practice and research.

Beyond standard microscopic slides, we utilize a broad range of on-site laboratory testing, including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, PCR-based molecular testing, flow cytometry, digital image analysis, cytogenetics and stool, blood, urine testing with technical partners Allina Health laboratories and MNGI Digestive Health. We also can send specialized testing elsewhere as needed.

There are seven GI fellowship-trained pathologists and five senior pathologists who have a special interest in GI diseases on our team. Our providers have a combined total of more than 225 years of experience in this field. Our GI pathologists have published more than 200 articles, conducted numerous lectures locally, nationally and globally, and are members of multiple professional societies.
