Introductory Note:  My attraction to GI, liver and pancreatobiliary pathology is based on the challenges provided by the wide variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions found in these organ systems and my love for pathologist-clinician interactions and clinical correlations.  My appreciation for the clinician side of these interactions arose from my initial training in internal medicine.  The pathologist side was fostered by mentorships under Drs. Jurgen Ludwig and Rodger Haggitt, world-renowned hepatopathologists and gastrointestinal pathologists, respectively.  I served in and eventually headed the Gastrointestinal Pathology Working Group at the Mayo Clinic Rochester and was very active in clinical practice, research, and teaching.  I accepted my current position in 1999 in order to focus on my major work-related passion - enhancing patient care by working with pathologists and clinicians to integrate new scientific concepts about disease into daily practice.
