Lasers including flow cytometry, molecular biology,
and immunochemistry. These advanced
services are directed by trained and
experienced molecular pathologists and
hematopathologists. Each area maintains an
active research and development program,
ensuring the most current and cost-effective
molecular tests are available for clinical
application.

The benefits of maintaining tightly integrated technologies, coupled with active research, are readily apparent in the Breast Cancer Specialty Testing offered by the Molecular Diagnostics section.

We provide solutions to difficult diagnostic problems.

Flow Cytometry The flow cytometry laboratory is a leader in the development of multiparameter flow methods. Many of our techniques have been presented in abstracts, seminars, and scientific publications. Our facility is used extensively to evaluate blood, bone marrow, lymph node, breast and prostate cancer, and samples from fine needle aspirations.

Immunochemistry The Immunochemistry service offers both manual and automatic staining of fresh, frozen, or paraffin embedded tissue. Personalized consultation is available to assist the physician in selecting the appropriate diagnostic panels and interpreting the results.

Molecular Pathology The molecular pathology laboratory is committed to being at the forefront of developing innovative ways to translate gene data into clinical relevancy. We employ highly specialized techniques such as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR), and Southern blotting to examine the human genome for alterations.

Image Analysis Our ability to perform Image Cytometry and Breast Hormone Receptor Analysis, along with DNA Ploidy Analysis by Flow Cytometry, makes this service one of the most sophisticated breast cancer laboratories in the country. This integrated approach to breast cancer analysis provides important biologic data to clinicians to assist them in planning treatment.

Cytogenetics The Molecular Diagnostics Cytogenetic Service is one of the largest cytogenetics laboratories in the Midwest. Chromosome Analysis and Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization techniques are routinely used to enhance our services to the clinician.
