Flow Cytometry

Since 1987, when Dr. Stanley McCormick became the director, this laboratory has emphasized
clinical diagnostic service. At the same time,
we have also maintained a research program
designed to provide hematopathologists and
oncologists with the most current diagnostic
testing.

Our dual-laser Coulter Elite flow cytometer, in
combination with our rigorous attention to
technical detail, makes us one of the most
advanced laboratories in the Upper Midwest.

Flow cytometry is becoming indispensable

in diagnosing a wide range of conditions (for example, Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH), or Trophoblastic Disease) as well as providing useful prognostic information in malignancies.

Test offerings (Follow the hyperlink to obtain sample requirements, etc.):

DNA Ploidy This test is used as a diagnostic and prognostic indicator in solid tumors by measurement of nuclear DNA. Non-tumor cells are eliminated by cytokeratin gating.

Leukemia/Lymphoma Panel This panel is used in the diagnosis and clinical management of acute and chronic hematologic malignancies. The panel is tailored to each case after morphologic review by a pathologist.

TdT by Flow Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) by flow cytometry is useful in the diagnosis, and follow up of patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, myeloid leukemia, or lymphoblastic lymphoma.

BLAST Enumeration Flow cytometry for minimal residual disease analysis of leukemic cells previously characterized for lineage-associated markers.
